Happy Cinco de Mayo

So Cinco de Mayo isn't actually Mexican independence day - that would be September 16 - but it is a Mexican holiday, mainly celebrated in the state of Puebla, and it commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. (source: Wikipedia)

I happen to think that a fiesta type celebration could make an amazing wedding, so I put together this inspiration board. I love the colors, and it could be very budget friendly wedding. For instance, have your favorite Mexican restaurant or taqueria cater the food, have homemade watermelon margaritas, a tequila tasting, Mexican beers on ice in a galvanized tub, hang papel picado banners, serve cupcakes like these yummy Margarita flavored ones from Trophy Cupcakes, and do the flowers yourself - the looser the arrangement and the more colorful the flowers the better.

Have a happy Cinco de Mayo! Here's a yummy recipe for the homemade watermelon margaritas:

Ingredients:
3 cups seedless-watermelon chunks (about 1 lb. peeled watermelon)
1 ½ cups fresh lime juice
½ cup sugar (or less, to taste)
1 cup tequila
½ cup Grand Marnier

Directions:
1. Combine watermelon, lime juice and sugar in a blender, and blend on high until completely liquid and frothy.
2. Combine in a pitcher with chilled tequila and Grand Marnier.
3. Fill pitcher with ice, stir and serve.
*BTW: Ice goes in at the last minute, so it doesn't dilute.
