A Curious Wedding

Just in time for Halloween, Alicia of Bows and Arrows sent this Alice in Wonderland inspired shoot my way. As a lifelong Alice fan (I can quote the whole Disney movie, ok?) I was head over heels for Alicia and this team of vendors' whimsical woodland take on a Wonderland wedding. Some seriously steal worthy ideas here - like the tea bag place cards, the recycled glass bottle centerpieces and the mismatched china and chairs.

So fantastic! Thanks so much to Alicia of Bows and Arrows for sharing this today. Have a happy Halloween weekend everyone!

Inspiration Board: Immortal Beloved

My version of a halloween inspiration board, but of course it is more darkly romantic than scary. A ceremony in the woods at a stone altar, followed by a reception inside a large Gothic stone mansion. Tarnished gold, brass and silver goblets abound with anenomes, succulents and dried fiddleheads tucked inside. Mercury glass votives are in nearly every corner, adding romantic flickering candlelight to the dark manse. The bride is dressed in dramatic fashion in Vera Wang and gold cuff bracelets. The maid of honor wears a dusty purple dress with a feather headpiece. For the cake, Golden lady apples are painted with edible gold luster dust and set atop a vanilla-bean spiced apple cake filled with caramel buttercream and drizzled with caramel. The reception goes till the wee hours, and the bride and groom stay up all night to watch the sunrise among the misty morning fog.

"My thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved, now and then joyfully, then sadly, waiting to learn whether or not fate will hear us - I can live only wholly with you or not at all." - Beethoven

DIY Apple Wedding Inspiration

I'm still on my fall kick, even though I feel winter coming on all too fast (it snowed where we live two nights ago). Apples are such a perfect symbol of fall, and they make cheap and delicious decor for a fall wedding. Here's some apple eye candy to feast on and DIY projects to get inspired by:

How gorgeous is this apple and dahlia centerpiece? DIY your own with these tips: "Tuck fresh apples into a bouquet of red dahlias for a bountiful centerpiece. Poke twigs (or floral picks) into the bottoms of different-size apples, then insert twig ends into floral foam in the container."

Apple dessert buffet ideas - serve candied apples on stacked tiers, and dress up a plain cake with apples, leaves and flowers

A sweet escort/place card idea - candied apples with wood tags

For appetizers, serve Crostinis with Homemade Tomato, Bacon and Apple Jam topped with Feta Cheese. Get the recipe here (from Better Homes and Gardens)

Homemade Apple Butter favors with cloth covered lids do double duty as a placecard and favor. (from OnceWed)

A rustic Apple Butter Cake makes a sweet fall treat.
Get the recipe here (from Postcards and Pretties)

Apple pie pops in fall shapes like leaves with be a hit with guests of every age. Get the recipe here (from Better Homes and Gardens)

Have a "Pick Your Own" apple station where guests can take home custom printed paper bags of apples as favors.

Tuesday Shoesday

Happy Tuesday Shoesday! When I saw these Valentino Lace Rosette T-Strap platform pumps it was love at first sight. How pretty would that camel color be under a wedding dress? Valentino had me at 'lace rosette', because that lace rosette is just complete romantic perfection, and then give me a t-strap and a platform and I'm on board.

Real Wedding: Fall Wedding at Strawberry Farms

Today's real wedding is so delightfully fall-ish, you can literally feel the crispness! Aimee and Troy's wedding was held at Strawberry Farms in Orange County, and had a down home, rustic, vintagey feel to it, which Carissa at JL Designs helped design. Robert Evans and Christopher Wren were on hand to capture the day, as was Elysium Productions who put together one of the sweetest wedding videos ever of this wedding.

From Carissa of JL Designs: "I really adored this couple (who are wedding photographers)...they had a definitive vision for their day and I loved being able to pick up the ideas they had and run with them! Rustic, cozy, eclectic, warm, playful, crafty, comfortable."

From the bride Aimee: "Most of our inspiration came from the venue itself and the time of year. Its name was “Strawberry Farms” and it’s friendly red barn inspired us to create something that felt very crafty & very much like autumn. One of my favorite stores is Anthropologie – where I wandered for inspiration & later found my bridesmaids dresses :)"

"The bridal bouquet was made up of red, yellow + navy flowers - ranunculus, billy balls, cone flowers, privet berries, millet, blackberry branches and wrapped in crochet laces."

The stationery was all done by the bride's sister, Promise Tangeman.

The bride's headpiece was a vintage find.

How amazing is the aisle decor with all these mis-matched lanterns? Brilliant.

The bridesmaids all wore vintage hats that the bride had scoured vintage and thrift shops for.
Instead of flowers, the bridesmaids carried terracotta pots of marigolds tied with yellow lace.

Thanks so much to Carissa of JL Designs and Aimee and Troy Grover for sharing your wedding with us!

Inspiration Board: An Orchard Wedding

How sweet would a fall wedding in an apple orchard be? Let baskets of apples be your centerpieces as well as your favors for guests (or let them loose in the orchard to pick their own), have jars of homemade apple butter at each placesetting as yummy placecards that double as favors, have apple cider cocktails and mocktails as your signature drink, and serve apple hand pies as a sweet dessert.
