Real Wedding: Fall in Charleston

Today's sweet fall wedding was shot by Richard Ellis Photography took place in Charleston, South Carolina, and has some true southern charm to it. I love the cameo on the bride's bouquet, the arrangement of pears in a glass vase in the outdoor lounge area at the reception with metal lanterns hanging from trees, the soft yellow and pewter color scheme, the way the couple and their wedding party wandered around the cobblestone streets of Charleston before the reception getting some amazing shots, and the lovely fall harvest feel of the tables at the reception which was held at the historic Wickcliffe House. Did I mention there was dancing outside under the stars at the end of the night? So perfect.

Thanks so much to Richard Ellis Photography for sharing this wedding!

Inspired By: Boardwalk Empire

The season finale of HBO's Boardwalk Empire was this past Sunday night, and I have to admit, I love a period show/film especially if its done well. Boardwalk Empire definitely was, and watching it was a Sunday night ritual with my husband. Even if I was (admittedly) squeamish at first about the violence and gangster theme in the show, I was won over by the storylines, acting, directing, cinematography, sets, and especially the costumes. I couldn't help but notice the effect that Boardwalk Empire has had lately on fashion, its amazing to see after such a short time! I thought I'd share some of my personal faves I've found that speak to the 1920's - 30's Prohibition era that Boardwalk Empire is set in - a time of Champagne, shorter hemlines, and all night dancing.

No flapper girl would be complete without her long pearl necklace.

And no 1920's reception table would be complete without a table lamp!
These lovelies from the MoMA store transform any regular wine glass into a lovely little 1920's inspired table lamp:

In the latest issue of Southern Weddings Magazine, there was the prettiest 1920's style shoot you ever did see by Jillian Event Design. So many swoon worthy period details here, from the invitations by Thoughtful Day to the signature cocktail and the prohibition style bar venue!

Inspiration Board: Something Old, Something New

Weddings are such an amazing mix of old tradition yet new and different at the same time. This board is an homage to the wedding tradition of something old, something new. The something old is the antique vintage inspiration - mismatched china in shades of white and purple, a tower of champagne coupes, and a sweet vintage pink bridesmaids dress from Etsy. The new is the bride's dress by Peter Langner which is a perfect ode to the Grace Kelly era that only looks vintage, the meringue cake inspired on the outside by both yesteryear and the bride's dress but with decidedly modern flavors inside, the flowers look like a throwback to another era but are updated with surprising purple succulents, and a pair of lovebirds in a cage as a sweet reminder of  your sweet union.

It's Friday and it's time for a roundup of some of my fave Holiday wedding and home decor finds from the wedding blog world (and beyond). There are some great free downloads and project ideas for your holiday today. This weekend Brandon and I are pulling out our Christmas decor, getting our tree, and putting up lights on the house - it's snowy here in Bend, Oregon so bring on the peppermint hot cocoa and warm mittens!

The Rustic, Frostingless Wedding Cake

I've been noticing a delightfully rustic cake trend lately - the frostingless cake. With frosting or filling only in between the layers and not covering the entire cake, these cakes make a rustic and simple yet stunning statement. After years of overdone, over-fondanted cakes, I think we're seeing a new movement towards de-constructed cakes with an emphasis on taste and a rustic look. Celebrities like Hilary Duff have even gotten in on the trend. I've rounded up some of my favorite frosting-less cakes for you to check out...

What do you think? Are you loving this rustic, frostingless trend or not so much? I'm think I'm loving it if it both fits the feel of your wedding and tastes amazing, and I think these cakes are the perfect antidote to the overdone wedding cake trend we've seen for the past decade. Thoughts?
